Newly crowned World Champions Leeds Rhinos have announced the capture of Newcastle Knights hooker Danny Buderus. The former Australia captain will play for Leeds from 2009 and is the Rhinos first signing since Gareth Ellis scribbled on the dotted line for Wests Tigers.
The signing raises interesting questions with regards to the future of current hooker Matt Diskin. Will the Rhinos use a rotation policy and thus have some back-up at number 9 which they have lacked in recent years? Or will Diskin depart to pastures new at a time when he seems to be regaining his top form?
The Rhinos' chief executive Gary Hetheringon commented on the signing:
"In Danny Buderus we have signed one of the greatest players in the world. Danny has achieved everything in Australia with the Knights, New South Wales and the Kangaroos. Now he will be able to fulfil his dream of playing in England and the opportunity play at places like Wembley and Old Trafford with the Rhinos."
